Rear Admiral (LH) Fabrizio ORENGO

RADM (LH) Fabrizio ORENGO was born on May 06th 1971 in Sanremo (Imperia - Italy). He joined the Italian Naval Academy in 1990.

At the end of the Academy, he was selected to attend the Navigation and Communication specialization course at the Italian Navy Training Center, he was then promoted Junior Lieutenant in 1994.

For the following three years, he served on board the guided missile destroyer ITS AUDACE (La Spezia Naval Base) as Electronic Warfare Officer. He participated in several national and NATO exercises in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. On completion of this first period aboard, he attended the “Principal Warfare Officer Course" at the Italian Naval Academy and Italian Navy Training Center.

In July 1999 he was promoted Lieutenant and embarked on board the ASW Frigate ITS SCIROCCO (La Spezia Naval Base) where he served as Navigation and Communication Officer. During this period, he participated in the NATO operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR in the Mediterranean (2002-2003).

At the end of these four years on board, in 2003 he completed the training process preparatory for his first command, in particular he attended the Italian Navy “Naval Command School" in Augusta. From September 2003 he took command of the Mine Hunter Coastal ITS ALGHERO (La Spezia Naval Base). The ship was mainly deployed in the Med Sea S and participated in the national mine hunting operation and national – multinational exercises.

After his first command tour, in September 2004 he was assigned to the to the Italian Defence General Staff, 2nd Department, as Staff Officer in the security branch. In July 2005 he was promoted Lieutenant Commander.

In September 2007 LCdr ORENGO was transferred to the Italian Navy New Construction Acceptance Office (La Spezia Base) as prospective OPSO on the new Italian Navy Aircraft Carrier ITS CAVOUR. In 2009 he became XO of the Carrier. The ship was mainly deployed in the Med Sea but in January 2010 CAVOUR participated in the International Relief Operation in Haiti after the heart-quake on the 12yh January. In July 2009 ORENGO was promoted Commander.

In 2011 he was selected to attend the Italian Defence General Staff Course 2012 where he graduated in July 2012. From July 2012 he took command of the ASW Frigate ITS LIBECCIO, Maestrale class.

Back in Rome in August 2013, he served at first in the Italian Navy General Staff as Head of the Telecomunication Office and then at the Fleet Command (CINCNAV) as Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy C4S Command. In July 2015 he was promoted Captain.

From September 2018 he was appointed as Commanding Officer of the Multiporpouse Offshore Vessel ITS ELETTRA and he deployed for several operational mission in the Mediterranean Sea.

Back in Rome in September 2019, he served in the Italian Navy General Staff as Deputy Head of the C4S Department.

From September 15th 2021 he was appointed as Commanding Officer of the Italian Navy New Construction Outfitting Center in La Spezia.

From December 09th 2024 he is the Director of the Italian Navy Hydrographic Institute in Genoa.

On the 1st January 2025 he was promoted Rear Admiral (LH).

 

RADM ORENGO is married to Cristiana and they have one daughter, Alessandra.​
